About Me

Welcome (An Audio Message from Sarah)

Hello – I’m Sarah Ryan and I’m a solicitor, writer and mentor. You can also find me on facebook and twitter. I am currently living in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, although I grew up in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

I am the founder of From Student to Solicitor, which is a community for law students and solicitors who are passionate about achieving success in their careers. Started in November 2011, it has since evolved into one of the go-to resources for law students and solicitors alike.

I am a solicitor with 2 years PQE specialising primarily in family law but have a great deal of experience in conveyancing. I love being able to mentor and advise young lawyers on their way to qualification. I am a strong advocate of the power of positive thinking and that it is important to have a good work-life balance.

My Background

My law career started just over 10 years ago when I was 18 and worked for various law firms throughout my law degree. I went on to study the Legal Practice Course part-time so that I could work, partly to gain more legal experience and partly to pay for the tuition fees! Following this, I started my training contract in a medium-sized high street firm in Hertford, Hertfordshire. I spent two brilliant years there learning from some of the best lawyers in the county. Unfortunately, I qualified just as the recession started, so they were unable to keep me on. I joined a small firm in Milton Keynes as a Newly Qualified Solicitor specialising in family law and conveyancing. In November 2011, this firm merged with a large high street firm and I dropped my conveyancing work to specialise solely in family law.

Outside work I am lucky enough to be married to the love of my life and we became parents in March 2012, which keeps us pretty busy! My hobbies include reading, watching films, running, yoga, spending time with my family and cooking.
